International Red Panda Day

Something to make you smile.

Red panda

I don’t normally mention dates in the calendar for particular species but these little guys and girls are very special in our family and they need help. Like so much wildlife around the world, their habitat is under threat and without intervention they will likely go extinct. But the don’t have to.

International Red Panda day is on Saturday 19th September 2020.

Organised by The Red Panda Network, the fundraising effort this year is “Plant a Red Panda Home” – All the details for this year’s virtual event are on this website !

These furry creatures are endangered. The Red Panda Network estimates there are 2,500 individuals left in the wild – just pause and put that in context – there are more students in secondary school in my town that Red Pandas left in the wild. Habitat destruction and hunting create massive threat to these animals and the Red Panda Network is working to protect habitat, plant new forest and expand reserves where the animals can live safely.

Do one happy thing this week – support the Red Panda Network. Donate directly to the charity through the Red Panda Network website or support their conservation work by buying from their shop. Join the online event for happy Red Panda pics and facts.

If that all seems too far from home many zoos around the country have red pandas and are part of the world wide breading programme to maintain diversity in the species. Sponsor a red panda or book an experience day where you can meet animals up close and learn about the conservation efforts to protect this species.
